Timothy David Olyphant (born May 20, 1968) is an American actor. He is best known for his television work as Sheriff Seth Bullock in Deadwood (2004–2006) and Deputy U.S. Marshal Raylan Givens in Justified (2010–2015). He has also starred in the films Scream 2 (1997), Go (1999), Gone in 60 Seconds (2000), The Broken Hearts Club: A Romantic Comedy (2000), Dreamcatcher (2003), The Girl Next Door (2004), Live Free or Die Hard (2007), Hitman (2007), A Perfect Getaway (2009), The Crazies (2010), I Am Number Four (2011), and Rango (2011).

Olyphant was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, to Katherine Lyon (Gideon) and John Vernon Bevan Olyphant. His father was a college professor who worked for a winery. His surname is a variant spelling of the Highland Scottish Clan Oliphant. He has Russian Jewish (from a maternal great-grandfather), English, German, Scottish, Dutch, and Irish ancestry, and is a descendant of industrialist Cornelius Vanderbilt through Emily Thorn Vanderbilt. His paternal grandmother was the sister of music producer John Hammond. Olyphant was raised in Modesto, California, and began competitive swimming at age 6. In high school, Olyphant started training seriously under swim coach Darrell Lohrke, who came to Modesto via Arden Hills Swimming and Tennis Club, and Olyphant became a nationally ranked swimmer.
